MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

To our Nonprofit Partners:

Knowing that everyone is impacted by the current economic crisis, we want to share steps the foundation is currently taking for our grantmaking. These steps are necessary because the foundation's assets have declined considerably.mt. sopris

First, we will be devoting much of our grantmaking to fulfill our donors' intention, providing direct services to people in need. We will be dedicating the bulk of our resources to basic human needs and to organizations that improve people's ability to achieve self-sufficiency.

In addition to funding organizations whose mission matches the focus described in the preceding paragraph, we will still continue to fund a broad spectrum of nonprofit organizations across the state. However, due to our shrinking asset base, we will be limiting our funding in the following areas:

In the Health & Mental Health Arena our funding will be restricted to organizations providing direct services for uninsured individuals.

In the Children & Youth Arena our funding will be restricted to organizations that have a direct and sustained involvement with their participants and have a track record of results.

Additionally and with regret, we generally will not be funding:

Start-up organizations,
Arts organizations, or
Capital requests.

If you are uncertain about the opportunity to receive a grant from the Anschutz Family Foundation, we ask that you either call us or send a letter of intent. That way, before you write a grant request, we can help you understand whether it will qualify. If your organization falls outside of our more restricted focus, we are very sorry. We sincerely hope that your organization will weather these times and arrive on the other side stronger and more effective than ever.

In these challenging times we encourage all organizations to consider:

Immediate cost savings strategies
Deliberate efforts to build strategic collaborations that will yield efficiencies
Expanding efforts to diversify resource development
Engaging your board of directors directly in your efforts to raise funds

Throughout our history, resiliency has been a defining characteristic of the American people and those in the nonprofit sector. We salute all nonprofits, for we know that the health and vibrancy of our communities depend upon the quality of your work.

Most sincerely,

Sue Anschutz-Rodgers
President and Chair
